José Francisco Sánchez has resigned from the board of directors of the Torrevieja Symphony Orchestra (OST), bringing to a close his 17-year involvement with the institution he helped found in 2008.

His resignation follows the controversy surrounding his dismissal as the orchestra’s director in January 2025—a move that sparked strong opposition among OST members.

In a statement, Sánchez reflected on his time with the orchestra, highlighting its growth from humble beginnings with just four musicians into a highly regarded symphony with a strong connection to the local public.

He recalled the success of the recent New Year-Three Kings Concert, where the International Auditorium of Torrevieja was filled to capacity in both sessions.

Expressing gratitude to supporters, Sánchez emphasised his pride in the recognition received from the people of Torrevieja, including the Diego Ramírez Pastor Award in 2023.

His decision comes shortly after a delayed ordinary general meeting of the OST, where members discussed internal matters amid lingering tensions over his dismissal.

Despite some members calling for early elections, the board has not acted on this request. The meeting, attended by nearly 280 participants (including proxy votes), raised concerns about transparency in the board’s handling of recent events.
