Torrevieja – In a significant move to improve mobility and ease congestion, the Torrevieja Council has approved the drafting and management of works to develop six new park-and-ride parking areas across the municipality. The Local Government Board (JGL) officially awarded the project to the joint venture OWNplan – JARS for a contract value of €57,952.26, with the draft expected to be completed within a month.

This initiative, welcomed by both residents and visitors, comes in response to the growing demand for accessible parking in the urban area and reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

The project will transform six municipally owned plots—currently undeveloped and strategically located—into dedicated park-and-ride facilities, totalling over 150,000 square meters in surface area. These locations are designed to encourage commuters to switch from private vehicles to more efficient forms of transport such as buses, carpooling, cycling, or walking.

The six designated park-and-ride sites include:

  • Parking 1: Avda Station – Calle Urbano Arregui – Torrevieja Acequión Canal – N-332 | Approx. 14,573 m²
  • Parking 2: Calle Barcelona City – Acequión Public School – Avda Station – N-332 | Approx. 12,789 m²
  • Parking 3: Near Parque de las Naciones – N-332 | Approx. 11,350 m²
  • Parking 4: Avda Ramón del Valle Inclán  – Torreta area | Approx. 7,102 m²
  • Parking 5: Calle Juan Valera – CV-905 – Avda Rosa Mazón Valero | Approx. 15,315 m²
  • Parking 6: Avenida Delfina Viudes – Antonio Soria Park – Weekly Market area – N-332 | Approx. 92,397 m²

Once developed, these facilities will offer much-needed relief from inner-city parking pressure while promoting cleaner, smarter transportation options. The project also aims to reduce the dominance of private cars on city streets, improving air quality, reducing traffic, and creating a more walkable, livable urban environment.

“This is an important step toward a greener, more efficient Torrevieja,” a council spokesperson said. “By investing in park-and-ride infrastructure, we’re encouraging a shift in how people move through the city, making it easier and cleaner for everyone.”

Construction work is expected to follow shortly after the project draft is completed, marking a new chapter in the city’s urban and environmental planning.
