The municipality of Alfarp, home to around 1,500 people, located a little to the south of Valencia, will from now on be known as Alfarb, after the regional government spent time debating the desires of the local council for them to exclusively use the Valencian form of the town´s name.

The agreement has been adopted after the Alfarp (previous name) council agreed, in the plenary sessions held on January 30 and March 27, 2023, to approve the change of name of the municipality of Alfarp to Alfarb, in accordance with the reports of the Onomastics Section of the Valencian Language Academy, issued on December 21, 2022, and March 13, 2023.

The General Directorate of the Legal, Autonomous and Local Regime, of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, certified on April 10, 2022, that the proposed new name does not coincide with that of any municipality registered in the Register of Local Entities.

Likewise, the plenary session of the Valencian Academy of Language adopted on April 28, 2023, the agreement to consider that the most appropriate name for the place name is Alfarb.

At the time of writing, the town hall website’s domain name was still using the “p”, whereas their Facebook page was using “b”. Perhaps we will have to wait until after the elections for the change the town hall wanted to be fully implemented.
