The month of April has closed with a hotel occupancy rate of 80% in the province of Alicante, a figure that exceeds the 35% reached in the same month of 2021, according to data from the Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation of Alicante (APHA).

This is a very positive figure, which shows the good pace of tourism recovery, but which does not, however, equal the 82.8% that was registered in April 2019. Compared to March, the increase is estimated by 8.6 percentage points.

The good data obtained during Easter Week and the consistency in the recovery of the international clientele are behind the figures that invite optimism in the face of the months of greatest tourist demand.

The city of Alicante has an occupancy rate of 79.7%. Above is the rate of Playa de San Juan (86.6%). Data recorded elsewhere is more cautious. Thus, Elche reaches 76.5%, Orihuela 73.5%, Jávea 72.6%, Guardamar del Segura 69.1%, Santa Pola 66.2%, El Campello 49.8%, and Villajoyosa 25.0%. As a whole, the coast and beaches reach 66.0%, while the interior remains at 55.5%.

International customers represented the majority, accounting for 63.7% of the total, while domestic travellers represented 36.3%. Among visitors from outside Spain, those from the United Kingdom (20.4%) were the most prominent, followed by Norwegians (7.6%), Irish (5.8%), Swedes (5.8%), French (5.7%) and Germans (4.7%). Among the national needs, those of the Valencian Community (29.7%), Madrid (28.1%), Catalonia (10.0%), Andalusia (6.5%), Castilla-La Mancha (4.8 %) or Murcia (3.8%).

With the aim of making the Alicante destination more prominent in the face of the very competitive summer, the APHA is carrying out an intense agenda of international promotions with the support of different tourist authorities.

This week a Fam Trip was held for tourism professionals from the Netherlands, which has allowed them to see first-hand the tourist attractions of the Alicante capital. On the other hand, this week roadshows were also held in Reykjavik and Dublin, two capital markets with growth potential. Both operations are financed by the Provincial Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca

Finally, next week a workshop will take place in Lyon that will allow the city of Alicante and its offer to be presented to a representative body of professionals from the French urban tourism sector. This action is carried out in collaboration with the Costa Blanca Provincial Council.
