The secretary of Torrevieja’s Association of Ukrainians, Natalia Xhezhnyasvska, has said that the donation of canned food, clothing such as socks, blankets, sleeping bags and thermal clothing in general is urgently required.

She was addressing representatives of 22 local NGOs at a meeting arranged by the Torrevieja City Council to coordinate the reception of humanitarian aid to be sent to the Ukrainian people, who are currently suffering from the armed conflict.

The Councillor for NGOs and Volunteering, Concha Sala, together with the councillors of International Residents, Gitte Lund; of Citizen Participation, Inmaculada Montesinos and Social Welfare, Tomás Ballester, announced that the City Council is going to provide a building all donations can be centralised and that it will be managed by volunteers from Torrevieja’s many different NGOs.

They will work with the Association of Ukrainians in Torrevieja, which has been carrying out similar for several days at its headquarters on Calle Pedro Lorca, nº 138, where they are already receiving donations. They are currently moving them daily from Torrevieja to the Ukrainian border with Poland.

At the meeting the reception into Torrevieja of refugees was also discussed with various options considered that will be outlined in the coming days.

The representatives of the Torrevieja Council, together with the representatives of the local NGOs have all confirmed their willingness to undertake the work of coordinating humanitarian aid.
