Last week, saw the commencement of the demolition and construction works for Mojácar’s new Plaza Nueva along with the new local council facilities, starting off one of the most important projects that the village has undertaken in recent years.

Having overcome all of the necessary administrative formalities for contracting the work (awarded to the company Albaida Infraestructuras S.A.), the serious ground work has now begun on the structure of what will be the new Town Hall premises.

All sections of the work have been scheduled week by week as accurately as possible, beginning with fencing off the area along with necessary signage and the demolition of the pavement.  Also started is the micropiling, a component of the foundations, which gives resistance to traction and compression by drilling into the ground, installing tubes and then injecting them with concrete under high pressure.

For these first steps, neither the traffic along the Avenida de Paris, nor vehicular or pedestrian access to the village along by the Plaza Nueva will be affected. All these works, along with the removal of debris will be coordinated continuously with Mojácar’s Municipal Police throughout the whole project, keeping on top of any changes that arise.

So that there will be minimum interference to daily life and activities in the town, the works are going be carried out in different phases.  It is important to ensure that by the start of the 2017 tourist season, Mojácar’s new Plaza Nueva is ready and in perfect condition. This phase includes the completion of the basic structure of the premises of the New Town Hall.  Once this is done, the project will then focus on the interior of the building and the commissioning for use.
